New King Salman Stadium in Riyadh to Feature 92,000 Seats and Advanced Amenities
Saudi Arabia has announced plans to build the King Salman Stadium, a major new sports venue set to open by 2029. The stadium will seat 92,000 people and cover over 660,000 square meters in Riyadh.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the Ministry of Sports revealed the design and details of the project. This new stadium will serve as the main venue for the Saudi Arabia national team and host various major events.
The stadium will feature a royal box with 150 seats, 120 hospitality suites, 300 VIP seats, and 2,200 seats for dignitaries. It will also include sustainable cooling systems for both the audience and the playing field. Additionally, large screens will enhance the viewing experience for attendees.
Visitors will enjoy internal gardens and a walking track on the stadium’s roof, offering views of King Abdulaziz Park. The location on King Salman Road in northern Riyadh is close to key areas, including King Khalid International Airport and the Riyadh train station, ensuring easy access.

The stadium will be part of a larger complex of over 360,000 square meters. This will include two training fields, fan zones, an indoor sports hall, an Olympic swimming pool, and an athletics track. Outdoor courts for volleyball, basketball, and padel will cater to various sports activities. A 9-kilometer sports trail will connect these facilities around King Abdulaziz Park.
The design, selected from six international submissions, emphasizes sustainability and architectural excellence. Inspired by the mountainous terrain, the design integrates with King Abdulaziz Park through a valley. The stadium will feature green walls and roofs, reflecting local architecture and meeting environmental standards.
Overall, the King Salman Stadium will become a landmark for Riyadh, enhancing the city’s global standing and providing a premier venue for major events.
